Artist Bio

Allison Merriweather is a dreamer and a visionary. Her highly charged instantly recognizable style has gained wide acclaim among the viewing public. Reality is rearranged and transformed in her mind into intensely personal visions which she then transfers to canvas with directness, freshness and a "passionate uniqueness" as one critic put it. Obeying no rules but those of her imagination, Allison's paintings possess a mysterious poetry. Above all she is a masterful storyteller, putting elements within our grasp and counting on the viewer to draw the correct conclusions. Allison Merriweather lives and works in Houston, Texas with her family including a boisterous menagerie of beloved pets. Her work has been exhibited widely including the Hickory Museum of Art in NC, Hurn Museum in Savannah, GA and The Art Car Museum in Houston, Texa. She is also commissioned by THE GRAND WINE AND FOOD AFFAIR to create a paintingthat captures the spirit of the event.

Kristen T Woodward, the official resident curator for Artists2artists, wrote the following about ' LAST DANCE AT THE BOHEMIAN CAFE' " This whimsical image reminds me in part of Chagall. The figures seem to float in space below a paper cut-out crescent moon – the figures’ tiny feet and hands helpless in directing their movements. Overall, the green scalloped curtain sets an intimate stage, compressing the figures into a tight picture frame. I really enjoy the textural manipulation of color- the blue-green shadows around the female figures eyes move into her hair, and connect the scenic elements throughout the work. The forlorn expression of the central couple isn’t exactly offset by the violinist at the bottom, but his role seems more of passive observer than participant."
